Does Life Have You All Locked Up?
Thank God for principles and propositions. They have their place. But when you are really locked up in trouble, it’s not what you know, but whom you know that really matters.
Paul understood this well. Old, cold, and locked up in a Roman dungeon for the sake of Christ, he encourages his spiritual son, Timothy, with these words:
For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day. (II Timothy 1:12 NKJV)
At a time when life looked dreary, with hands and feet chained, sitting in a dark, damp prison, Paul found strength, not in what he knew, but in whom he knew. He boasted not in his great knowledge of principles and propositions, but in his intimate knowledge of a Divine Person–his Lord Jesus Christ!
“There are many things I am uncertain of right now,” Paul would say. “I don’t know all that might happen to me as a result of this imprisonment. But there is one thing of which I am absolutely confident, and this brings me great comfort, I know whom I have believed and am fully convinced that He is watching over and caring for me.”
Child of God, don’t be satisfied until you too can say this with confidence. Don’t be satisfied with just knowing principles and propositions. Make it your goal and pray to grow in your revelation of Jesus Himself, to see Him in the Word and in your experiences. Then, during those times when life has you all locked up, you will not be afraid. You will find great strength and comfort in the One you know, the Man, Christ Jesus.
You see, ultimately, it’s not what you know, but whom you know that really matters.
Amen Amen Im encouraged in Jesus name.
