Please Be Seated
No chair was permitted in the Old Testament earthly sanctuary. God did not allow the Levitical priests to sit. He required them to remain on their feet continually. Why? Their work was not finished. And He wanted to make sure no one coming to the temple would get the impression that it was. As long as the veil that separated God from the people remained in place, sin was still an issue for God. And as long as sin remained an issue, the priests had work to do. They could not sit.
But Jesus’ priesthood is different. Listen to these words in Hebrews 10:11-14:
And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
Do you see the difference? Jesus is actually sitting. He is not standing. Jesus is actually relaxing and taking it easy at the right hand of God.
Child of God, do you know why it is okay with the Father for Jesus to be seated? Do you know why Jesus can be so relaxed? It is because there is absolutely nothing left for Him to do regarding our sins. He knows that His precious blood, which He offered the Father on our behalf, has perfected us in the sight of God forever. He knows the sin problem has been completely solved, once and for all. The Father has removed the veil and the way into the presence of God is perpetually open to any person, saint or sinner, who puts His trusts in Jesus. Unlike the Old Testament sacrifices, the blood of Jesus succeeded in taking away sins, not some, but all!
Now, let me ask you a few questions? If Jesus has solved the sin problem, is it solved? If He is relaxing at the right hand of the Father, and you are “seated in Him in heavenly places,” what do you think you should be doing? Then why are you still acting like there is unfinished business regarding your salvation that you need to complete?
Please take your seat, right there, at the right hand of your Heavenly Father. Relax. Jesus’ work is perfect. Nothing more is left for you to do other than believe. Stop fretting. Enjoy your fellowship with your Father. That’s what Jesus is doing. That’s what you get to do as well!
