Only God Could Do This for You
If you offend a king by something you say or do against him, and as a result the king banishes you from his presence, the only person who has the power to bring you back into favor with the king is the king. As the offender and the lesser person in a relationship with a king, you do not have the power to put yourself back into his presence, to be numbered ever again among his circle of friends. No matter how much you may want to be invited back into his presence, no matter what you say or do, unless the king chooses to invite you back into his presence, you will never see his face again.
If this is so on a human level, imagine how much more true it must be when the King in question is the Eternal God! The only way you, a sinner, can be reconciled to God is for God to want to be reconciled to you, to will it to be so, and for God to make it happen. And that is exactly what God did!
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself [received us into favor, brought us into harmony with Himself] through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. (II Corinthians 5:18-19 NKJV)
Now, isn’t this good news? Even though you were born in sin and conceived in iniquity, even though God is the Most Holy God and you are a most sinful man, even though you have sinned against Him in every possible way, the Great God, the Eternal King, decided to reconcile you to Himself, to receive you into favor and bring you into harmony with Himself.
You could have done absolutely nothing to achieve reconciliation with God. And there was absolutely nothing you could have stopped doing that would have achieved reconciliation with God. This problem was way beyond your ability to solve. Your own righteousness, or religious efforts, are as filthy rags. That’s why man-made religion fails. Only God can accomplish reconciliation..
Only God. Only God possessed enough wisdom to do it, only God possessed enough power to do it, only God possessed enough authority to do it, and only God possessed enough love to do it. God is the only One who could do this for you, and the Good News is, He did.
Child of God, today, God is no longer angry with you. He is reconciled to you, and at peace with you. He has received you into His favor. Because He has reconciled with you, He treats you as though you are sinless and blesses you as though you obey Him in everything. Being reconciled to you, He will be a Father to you, not a judge, and will show you as much love and favor as He shows Jesus.
Now, don’t receive the grace of God in vain. Make a decision to get to know God intimately and start enjoying His favor at all times. Never forget that reconciliation is God’s idea; God’s work. And it will produce all types of benefits for you if you believe what God says and start acting and talking like someone whom God favors.
(If you are reading this and you have not yet been reconciled to God by inviting Jesus into your life as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do so right now. God has done everything that needs to be done to save your soul and deliver you from your sins. He is offering you forgiveness of sins and a new life in Christ and an eternal relationship with Him. Why not respond to His unconditional love and grace today? Simply acknowledge your need to be forgiven of your sins, ask Him to do so, and then with your mouth confess your faith in Jesus as your Savior and Lord. God will do the rest. He will cleanse you of all your sins and give you eternal life.)
