Fight the Good Fight of Faith and Win!

022516_fight-the-good-fight-of-faith-and-winAre you fighting for your life, your health, your family? How well are you doing? Are you winning?  The only fight I consider good is the one I win.

In 1 Timothy 6:12, Paul exhorts Timothy to “fight the good fight of faith.”  Why? Because when we fight the fight of faith we always win!  Faith is the victory that overcomes the world.

Listen to John’s and Paul’s exhortations to us:

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith. Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” (‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:4-5‬ ‭NASB‬‬)

“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.”‭‭ (1 Timothy‬ ‭6:12‬ ‭KJV)

We are not called to fight devils.  We are not called to fight men.  We are not called to fight circumstances, at least not directly.  We are called to fight the good fight of faith.  And when we do, God will cause us to live triumphantly in Christ Jesus.  That means,  He will cause us to experience the victory Jesus won for us personally in our current circumstances over all the works of our enemies.

Now, observe what the fight of faith focuses on.  “Lay hold of eternal life…,” Paul says to Timothy. Literally, “Keep taking hold of the eternal life to which you are called.”  It does not focus on the enemy, or on the problem. It focuses on “the eternal life” within.  The way to overcome all your adversaries is to use your faith to keep taking  hold of “the eternal life” God mercifully gives to you in His Son.

Think of someone in danger of drowning.  A lifeline is thrown out to him. It’s within his reach. Now all he needs to do to be saved is to reach out and grab it. As soon as he grabs the   lifeline, someone will pull him out of the water and out of danger.  That’s what eternal life is–God’s lifeline that we grab hold of with our faith.

You were drowning in sin and satanic oppression of all kinds, and were helpless to deliver yourself.  Then God sent you a lifeline. His name is Jesus.  His life is “the eternal life” that overcomes the world, that destroys all the works of the enemy, and can deliver you out of all your afflictions.  He is available to every man, but if you are already a child of God because you have received Jesus as your Savior, then the lifeline, “eternal life,” is already inside of you. By using your faith to grab hold of it, it secures your victory!

Child of God, instead of focusing on your enemies, or on your problems, and trying to fight them directly, choose instead to focus your faith on the power and strength of “the eternal life” inside of you. Take hold of the “lifeline” that assures you victory by always focusing your mind on Christ as your life.   And making bold confessions of His abilities with your mouth.

This means because you have “the eternal life” of God inside of you, you do not need to be worried or frightened in any way by the enemy.  You just need to know and believe Jesus has already conquered them for you.  Just keep meditating on the revelation that you have the indestructible, undefeatable, death-destroying, disease-healing, needs-supplying life of Jesus inside of you and keep boldly decreeing  that all your enemies and troubles combined are not His equal.  That’s how you fight the good fight of faith and that’s how you personally experience the victory that overcomes the world!
