Supercharge Your Prayer Life
Do you want to pray with greater confidence? Would you like to exercise greater authority when you confront demonic powers? Are your doubts undermining your spiritual life and your prayers? Then you may need to supercharge your prayer life with fasting.
“Why could we not cast it out?” the disciples asked Jesus. “Because of your unbelief,” He responded. He attributed their prayer failure to unbelief. Unbelief is the greatest hindrance to answered prayer and the number one limiter of miracles in our lives. It needs to be resisted like the plague.
Jesus proceeded to tell them how. “For assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
According to Jesus, they would have succeeded where they failed, if only they had given themselves to prayer and fasting. This means, if the disciples had given themselves to prayer and fasting, the unbelief that produced this prayer failure would have been overcome. And they would have obtained the breakthrough and received the miracle.
Now, this should be enough of a reason for every disciple of Christ to include fasting as a spiritual discipline. Clearly, it is an effective means of overcoming unbelief and strengthening faith. It supercharges our prayer life, allowing us to obtain results we would not have otherwise.
Why is fasting so powerful? It does not change God–God does not need changing! He already loves us as much as He loves Jesus and is more than able to answer any prayer we pray. And it does not change circumstances–God does that in response to prayer. The power of fasting is the effects it has on us.
I find that when I choose to fast for several days, it weakens the influence of my physical senses on my mind; and it strengthens the influence of my spiritual senses on my perception. It makes me more conscious of things I cannot see and more able to perceive the presence and activity of the Spirit. This heightened spiritual sensitivity overcomes unbelief and reinforces my faith. The result is that I speak with greater authority and confidence, and am able to release the anointing that abides in me in a greater way. This anointing breaks yokes and produces powerful answers to prayer.
Another reason fasting is so effective is that it is a potent expression of humility. When you choose to go without food for a period of time to focus on God and give yourself to prayer, you are admitting that you are totally dependent upon Him and that the answer you need is not found in you. You are casting yourself upon Him fully and looking to Him only. This act of extreme humility triggers the flow of grace resulting in outstanding answers to prayer.
“But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you…Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” (James 4:6-7, 10 NKJV)
Child of God, you do not have to fast. It is not a law you must obey to obtain favor with God. Jesus did that for you. But you may need to fast to resist successfully the unbelief that is hindering your prayers and keeping you from walking in His favor. You may need to fast to increase your sensitivity to the things of the Spirit. You may need to fast as way of humbling yourself and triggering the flow of grace God gives to the humble. And when you do, your prayer life will go to another level. It will be supercharged. And prayer failures will become prayer victories!
More grace for the race Pastor! This was a word for me! Shalom to you and yours! Barakah
