Hold On!

071316_HoldOnAnd they said to one another, “Why are we sitting here until we die? If we say, ‘We will enter the city,’ the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. And if we sit here, we die also. Now therefore, come, let us surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they keep us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall only die.”

This was the condition four lepers found themselves facing in 2 Kings 7.  They were under siege. They were dying of starvation.

If you are reading this blog, you are probably not dying of starvation, but it is quite possible you are living with hopelessness.  And like these four men, you can see no way to deliver yourself from the siege you are under. You have weighed your options, and none of them is good. None!

And yet, if you belong to Christ, you are never without hope.  God makes a way. Just listen to what God promises in His Word.

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” (‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭10:13‬ ‭NIV)‬‬

God will always keep His Word.  He promises to provide a way out. And that is exactly what  He did for the four lepers.

And they rose at twilight to go to the camp of the Syrians; and when they had come to the outskirts of the Syrian camp, to their surprise no one was there. For the Lord had caused the army of the Syrians to hear the noise of chariots and the noise of horses—the noise of a great army…Therefore they arose and fled at twilight, and left the camp intact—their tents, their horses, and their donkeys—and they fled for their lives. And when these lepers came to the outskirts of the camp, they went into one tent and ate and drank, and carried from it silver and gold and clothing….” (‭‭II Kings‬ ‭7:5-8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Instead of surrendering to feelings of despair, these four lepers chose to walk in hope. So, they “rose at twilight to go to the camp of the Syrians.”  And when they arrived at the camp, they discovered God had turned things around completely for them. He had provided a way of escape.

Child of God, hold on!  Instead of giving up, rise up in your inner man and begin to declare, “I am coming out of this situation by God’s power and grace. I can not believe otherwise. I can not believe God has not provided a way out for me. I can not not believe I will live and not die. God has spoken and it is impossible for God to lie.”

Remember the darkest hour of the night occurs just before the break of dawn. No matter how bleak your today is, how depressing things are, how low you’ve sunk, if you are a child of  God, if Jesus lives inside of you, do not give up!  Because if you don’t, God will surprise you, just like He did these four lepers!
