Lift Up Your Eyes

092916_lift_up_your_eyesIn John 4:34-38, Jesus had some advice for His disciples.  If they were going to discover what they were born to do, they needed to “lift up” their eyes. That, my friend, is something you may have to do yourself.  Otherwise, you will come to the end of your life with a sense of emptiness, having no sense that you have fulfilled God’s purpose for you.

Two things happen when you lift up your eyes.  First, you stop looking down and second, you take your eyes off yourself.  Without these two qualities, it will be impossible for you, or any other person to see and fully embrace God’s vision for their life.

Here is why. Visions are about making things better, about believing in the possibility of creating a better future for ourselves and others. By their very nature, therefore, they require a positive outlook.   For that very reason, God’s vision can only take shape within the heart of a person who is hopeful, a person who believes things can change for the better.

This means, if you desire to discover and fulfill God’s vision for your life, you need to pay attention to your attitude. Your posture has to be one that keeps you looking up, in spite of how dreary things may appear to be around you.   Yes, there are many negative things happening in this world, but that does not mean you need to become a negative person.  The darker it is out there, the brighter your light can shine, the more your light is needed, the greater a difference you can make!

Having a positive outlook is critical to your success. Being able to acknowledge the bad without letting it overwhelm you is one of those spiritual non-negotiables.  Listen to what Jesus, Paul, and John had to say on this subject:

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John‬ ‭16:33‬ ‭NKJV‬)

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans‬ ‭8:28 NkJV)

“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (‭‭I John‬ ‭4:4‬ ‭NKJV‬)

If you are someone who struggles with pessimism, it’s important for you to allow the Holy Spirit through the Scriptures, to deliver you.  Ask Him to transorm you by the renewing of your mind.  Then begin to meditate on the promises of God and see all the examples in the Bible of God bringing good out of evil for His children.  Make a quality decision you are going to be a positive person because you serve a powerful God.

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” (‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Child of God, lift up your eyes!
