God Is Not Angry With You
Do you sometimes feel God is angry with you? Perhaps, because you have done something you know is wrong, when you go to pray you find that you have no confidence that He will listen to you. It seems like God is not even in the room and His ears are shut.
But your feelings are wrong! If Jesus is your Savior and you are in Christ, God will never be angry with you again. I know this because God cannot lie. Listen to what He said through the mouth of the prophet Isaiah:
Isaiah 54:9-10 For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be angry with thee, nor rebuke thee.
For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.
Will the earth ever again be destroyed by a flood? We can answer with an emphatic no because God has sworn it will never happen. Will God ever again be angry with any child of His? The answer is no; emphatically no! How can we be so emphatic? Because according to Isaiah, God has sworn, in the same way He swore about the flood, He won’t!
Does this mean that God does not care whether we sin or not, or that we do not commit acts that God should be very angry about? By no means!
But God is never going to manifest any anger toward a man or woman who is in Christ. The reason is that all of God’s anger against our sins was manifested toward Jesus on the cross. Because Jesus took our place on the cross as our substitute, God poured out all of His wrath against sin upon Him. God wounded His Son, Jesus, for our transgressions, bruised Him for our iniquities, and chastised Him severely for our peace. (Isaiah 53:3-5). And because the sinless Jesus experienced the full anger of God on our behalf against sin, it would be unjust for God to express any more anger toward us for our sins. To do so would dishonor the sufferings of Christ as our substitute.
God must at times correct us, but He will only do so as a loving Father who cares deeply for us because He knows how destructive and harmful sin is to us. He will correct us because He wants to save us from the destructive results of sin, but He will always do so without anger and without shouting.
Child of God, believer in Jesus, God will never be angry with you again. Grieved, maybe, but angry, never! He will never withdraw His kindness from you, nor terminate His covenant of peace with you. Never. What good news!
If you are not in Christ, this is the best reason to be. Why not invite Him into your life today as your Savior and enter into this covenant of peace that God has established with all who place their faith in His Son. All you need to do is ask.
