New Creation Reality
One of the essential requirements for spiritual growth and maturity is the need to renew our minds concerning who we are, now that we are in Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 boldly declares that “if any man is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away, and all things have become new.” Your born-again spirit, the immortal you, the real you, is eternally brand new, and made in the image of Jesus.
“Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,” Colossians 3:9-10 NKJV
Jesus did more for you on the cross than you may realize. The cross did not only put away your sins, it got rid of your sin nature. Using the analogy of technology, the cross completely wiped out the old hard drive of sin once located in your spirit; the resurrection replaced it with a brand new hard drive, programmed and wired for righteousness, holiness, joy, peace and prosperity.
I like to say that on the cross my sin nature was eliminated, my sins evaporated, and my guilt eradicated. The old man, defeated, depressed, fearing, impoverished, and sinful, is dead and done. He does not live in you anymore. He was crucified and put to death on the cross with Jesus. (Rom 6:2)
Sin is not your nature now; sinner is not your identity. Therefore, sin should not be your expectation, or your habit. The righteousness of Christ is imputed to you, giving you right-standing before God. And the righteous life of Christ is imparted to you, giving you holy desires and power.
What then is the source of your struggle? It is the residue, the remaining effects on your mind and body of the “old man” that once lived in you. Even though he no longer lives, your body and mind still suffer from his damaging effects, having been corrupted by his influence. The Bible refers to this corruption that still exists in your mind and body as the “flesh.”
The presence of the “flesh” ensures that you will have an ongoing battle with sin until you receive your glorified body that is promised to you when Jesus returns. But the righteous life imparted to your born-again spirit gives you victory over the flesh. Your continual confession and acknowledgment of who you are and what you have in Christ will trigger the outward manifestation of the inward reality.
Child of God, Christian growth and maturity is about discovering who you already are, your new self. You grow through the renewal of your mind to accept the new reality. And as you agree with God in your mind, your spirit works with your mind to bring your body in subjection. Just like a glove takes on the nature, power, and ability of the hand in it, so your spirit has taken on the nature, power, and ability of God as it is indwelled by the Holy Spirit. Truly, as He is so are you!
Good explanations! difference between the inner man that is new and the struggles by the flesh!
