The Message
In Mark’s version of the Great Commission, Jesus commands his disciples to go into all the world and “preach the Gospel.”
And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.’ Mark 16:15f NKJV
The word translated gospel means good news. You are commissioned to go into all the world and preach good news to sinners. This means going into every man’s world, including the world of prostitutes, the world of homosexuals, the world of atheists, the world of criminals, the world of corrupt politicians, the world of crooked businessmen, the world of godless entertainers and preach the Good News to them regardless of their sinfulness. Regardless of their lifestyles.
Now, what is this Good News? It is the message of reconciliation that God wants published for all to hear.
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. II Corinthians 5:18-21 NKJV
You are an ambassador for Christ. And your mission, if you decide to accept it, is to go into all the world and tell any sinner you meet, who is under the condemnation of the Law and facing eternal damnation that God loves him or her and has obtained a legal way through Jesus’ death to pardon them from all judgment for sin, past, present and future.
You are commissioned to tell them that instead of imputing their sins to them, God was in Christ imputing their sins to His Son. That Jesus suffered in their place on the Cross and satisfied all the demands of divine justice on their behalf.
You are commissioned to tell them that God has reconciled Himself to them through the cross; that is, He has put an end to the enmity that once existed between Him and them because of sin, and that God is now for them, not against them.
You are commissioned to invite them, to plead with them if necessary, to be reconciled to God by admitting their need and placing their faith in Jesus as their Savior and Lord.
You are commissioned to tell them with absolute certainty that once they humbly repent and accept His gift of righteousness through faith in Jesus, all of their sins will be forgiven and they will receive God’s gift of eternal life.
And if someone questions your right to make such audacious promises and asks you who gave you the authority to make such bold declarations, tell them you are an ambassador for Christ, one of the legal representatives of Jesus Christ on earth. Let them know your commission comes from the Son of God Himself, the One who said in Matthew 28, “All authority in heaven and earth is given to me.”
Child of God, you are an ambassador of good news. Proclaim this Gospel confidently. And unashamedly. It is the message, the only message God uses to save men, to reconcile men to Himself. It is this message that delivers men from hell. In Paul’s words, it is the power of God unto salvation.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:16-17 NKJV
Amen, Paul. Amen!
Thank Dad
Yeah Bishop thanks…
