Overcome Your Fear

090215_Overcoming Your FearNo doubt you have experienced fear.  It is evil.  It can paralyze its victims.  Fear does not come from God.

In his second and last letter to Timothy, the Apostle Paul warned his spiritual son not to yield to fear, especially as it related to fulfilling the purpose of God for his life.  He wrote: “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”  ‭‭II Timothy‬ ‭1:6-7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬.

If you yield to a spirit of fear, or timidity, you will find yourself unable to take the steps required to live your best life.  You will run when you should be standing still, and stand still when you should be moving with quickness and assurance.  Fear will keep you from enjoying your destiny.

That is what happened to the children of Israel as they stood at the border of the Promised Land.  It was theirs–Almighty God said so.  It flowed with “milk and honey.”  God promised to deliver it into their hands.  But the spirit of fear stopped them cold.

Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.” And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, “The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. There we saw the giants ( the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.”” ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭13:30-33‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Child of God, don’t let fear stop you from entering your “land of milk and honey.”  Refuse to allow it to paralyze you and keep you from doing what God created you for.  Instead of surrendering to a spirit of fear, decide to face it in the name of Jesus.  Ask God for supernatural boldness.

Then, begin to build courage into your soul.  How?  By putting yourself in remembrance of whom your God is and speaking His Word to yourself daily, saying,  “GOD HAS NOT GIVEN ME A SPIRIT OF FEAR, BUT OF POWER, LOVE, AND SOUND MIND.”

But don’t stop there. Stir up the gift of God that is in you. That is, start to do the very thing you are afraid to do, even if you have to begin doing it feeling afraid.  This prayer, Word, and action combo will prove lethal to your fears and monumental to your destiny.  And that, my friend, is good news!
