Stop Trying to Have Faith

121615_Stop-Trying-To-Have-FaithOne of the greatest hindrances to living victoriously is the notion that we need more faith than we have. And that somehow it is our responsibility to generate this faith through self-effort.  Nothing can be further from the truth.

Romans 12:3 says, God hath dealt to every man THE measure of faith” (emphasis mine). Notice, faith is something God gives us.  And the amount He gives to each of His children is THE exact measure needed to please Him and do His will.

In Ephesians 2:8, Paul says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” Observe, faith is not produced by you.  It too is a gift from God.

Galatians 5:22-23 says, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, FAITH, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Once again, we see that faith is a fruit of the Spirit, meaning it is the result of grace and not the product of human effort.

These and other verses make it clear that Jesus, not us, is the “author and finisher of our faith.”  And that faith is not something you need to be trying to have because by God’s grace you already do! God has indeed already dealt to you the measure of faith through your union with Jesus.

Paul exclaimed, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (‭‭Galatians‬ ‭2:20‬ ‭KJV‬‬).

Some translations read, “I live by faith in the Son of God.” If you are living by faith in the Son of God, you are looking to Him alone to supply all your needs, including the greatest of all, your need for supernatural faith.  And if you are living by the faith of the Son of God, you are recognizing that the faith you have comes from the Son of God.  It does not belong to you. God has, in fact, graciously placed the very faith of Jesus inside of you.

Regardless of the translation, the result is the same. Faith is God’s gift to you through your union with Jesus. And the fact that you have His faith, victory is guaranteed.

“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.”‭‭ (1 John‬ ‭5:4)

Have you seen it?  You have all the faith you will ever need to obtain all the promises of God, to receive answers to all your prayers, to heal the sick and work miracles, and to overcome the world.  That’s because God has given you THE measure of faith, the fruit of the Spirit, the faith of Jesus!

What’s left for you to do? Know you have it, acknowledge it, and use it!  “That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.” (‭‭Philemon‬ ‭1:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬)
Child of God, you do not need to try to have faith any longer. Because of Jesus, the Author and Finisher of faith, you can start thanking God for blessing you with all the faith you will ever need. Like Paul, start recognizing and living like you have the faith of the Son of God in you, knowing that this is the faith that moves mountains, obtains promises, quenches fire, shuts the mouth of lions, and raises the dead.
