God Has Descended Into You

061616_God-Has-Descended-Into-YouWho is a Christian? I will let John G. Lake answer this question for us.

“A Christian is not a reformed man. A Christian is a man renewed, remade by the Spirit of God. A Christian is a man indwelt by God, the house of God, the tabernacle of the most high! Man indwelt by God, becomes the hands, and the heart, the feet and the mind of Jesus Christ. God descends into man, man ascends into God!”

Now, stop and read this again, slowly, repeatedly, taking your time to truly digest the meaning of every word and phrase.  Is this how you see yourself? Are you conscious of the fact that God has “descended” into you in Christ, and you have “ascended” into God?

This is what makes the New Covenant a better covenant than the Old one.  Under the Old Covenant, the most believers could experience in this life was “God with them.”  Admittedly, this was a huge blessing.  But to be indwelt by God–that is far, far better!

God cleanses believers of all sin with the blood of Jesus and then comes into them to live forever. He takes ownership of their bodies so He can work through their human bodies to manifest Himself in the physical realm.

Paul declares:

“Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.” ‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭12:27‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

This is not a metaphor. Your body is literally the body God lives in and works through to accomplish His will on earth. Your hands are as much His as they are yours. And so are your mouth and your mind.  God has made your body His instrument of manifestation in the same way He did with the body of Jesus of Nazareth.

This revelation of your union with God in Christ and of God using your body as His own on earth is at the heart of the New Covenant. This is the “mystery” revealed through the Gospel. Christ in you, the hope of glory!

Child of God, Jesus lived conscious of His union with God and being indwelt by the Father. That was the secret to His great faith and powerful life. You are to do the same. Lay hold of this truth by faith. Never allow yourself to lose sight of it. Meditate on it, confess it, surrender your body to God daily,  and then, watch the glory of God shine through you! God has descended into you!
