What’s the Matter With You?
Having trouble with your emotions? Concerned about your behaviors and your seeming inability to change them? What about your apparent inability to receive answers to your prayers? What’s the matter with you?
Let me suggest you pay more attention to your tongue. That little member of your body is far more influential than you think! You have God’s Word on it.
James had quite a bit to say about the power of the tongue:
“If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.” James 1:26 NKJV
“For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!” James 3:2-5 NKJV
Solomon too:
“A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, But perverseness in it breaks the spirit…A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, And a word spoken in due season, how good it is!” Proverbs 15:4, 23 NKJV
“He who guards his mouth preserves his life, But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.” Proverbs 13:3 NKJV
“A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; From the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:20-21 NKJV
Jesus, as well:
“But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.” Matthew 12:36 NKJV
“For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” Mark 11:23 NKJV
And Paul too:
“For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:10 NKJV
So, is it possible your inability to see positive changes in your life is due to the state of your tongue? The truth is, it’s not what people do or say to you that will ultimately determine how you feel, what you do, or where you end up in life. It’s what you say to yourself and about yourself that really matters.
Child of God, the Scriptures are clear. It’s really that simple, and yes, it’s really that important. Change your talk, change your walk! Change your words, change your life!
Great Wisdom!
