The Mother of All Sins
God hates pride. In fact, of the seven things God says He hates in Proverbs 6, pride is mentioned first, even before lying and murder! That’s probably because that’s what He hates the most.
Why is pride at the top of all things God detests? I suspect, firstly, it’s because pride is the mother of all sins. It is the tree upon which all other sins grow, that allow all other sins to flourish, from which all other sins get their life. Pride is the original sin. Without it, sin cannot exist.
I suspect, secondly, God hates pride because it prevents us from turning to Him for help. God loves us and has a perfect plan for our lives, but He cannot help us unless we recognize our need for His help and are willing to do what He tells us. Pride prevents us from doing so and makes us vulnerable to anything the devil plans for us.
Pride replaces God with self. It makes an idol out of “Me.” It puts Me at the center with God and everybody else existing to please Me. It destroys relationships and is at the root of all quarrels, divorces, church divisions, and wars! How many relationships could have been saved, homes preserved, wars prevented, if someone had just been humble enough to say sorry.
“Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.” (Proverbs 13:10 KJV)
Instead of pride, God wants us to walk in humility. The humble person is the person who recognizes everything good he has is an undeserved gift from God. He, therefore, lives with a heart filled with gratitude and an attitude of total dependence upon God in everything. He knows without Jesus, he can do nothing.
While God will resist the proud, He gives grace, in fact, “more grace” to the humble.
“But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”” (James 4:6 NIV)
And God has promised to exalt, or lift up, the humble.
“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (I Peter 5:6-7 NKJV)
Child of God, humble yourself by choosing to depend upon God in every situation for everything, spiritual and natural. Humble yourself by being willing to give thanks instead of complaining and grumbling, which stem from pride. Allow “Me” to be dethroned and let Grace reign. God has a wonderful plan for your life. Don’t let pride spoil it.
“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble,”. (James 4:6)
Thanks Bishop.
May the Lord of all grace, overshadows me with more humility in all I do in Jesus name I ask.
I why pride is mostly been mentioned in scripture as a deadly weapon of the devil.
He knows the strength of pride and so he always wants to use pride subdue God’s people. Father God help me to be humble that I will receive more grace. All I am and all I have it’s because of grace
Wow! this is so powerful. I am so blessed by this word. Thanks Bishop.
Thanks, Bishop, for the teaching.
God, help me to be homble. Thanks Bishop
Thank you Bishop!
So true, Bishop! That is why so many are going to hell, rich or poor black or white, because pride is preventing them from admitting the truth about their sinfulness and accepting God’s free gift of salvation which is by grace through faith in Jesus!
Good stuff!
Praise the Lord Bishop, the letter in the center of both pride and sin is the letter”I”. When we self we resist God’s amazing Grace.
Thanks,
This is so much important your Eminence and thank God for you. Look forward to receiving more words of wisdom. ……..
