All Things Will Be Added Unto You

“Seek ye first the kingdom of heaven and His righteousness and all these things will be added on to you.” (Matt. 6:33)

Early Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene, along with two other women, made their way to the tomb. Thinking He was dead, they were coming to anoint the body of Jesus and minister to Him one last time. As they made their way, they were concerned about the Read More

How To Be Blessed

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

The Greek word for salvation is “soteria”. It means Read More

How She Got Me!

“I need financial help,” she wrote in a letter to me. “I’m living in a foreign country, I have no income, and no way to support myself. Please send me some money.” Her need was real, but I had already decided that I couldn’t help everybody who requested my assistance during the Liberian civil war. They were too many and my resources too little. I could only do so much, and at that time, I was certain I could afford to do no more.

But midway into her letter she did something that changed the outcome for her. She invoked the name of my mother. “Darlingston,” she said, “remember, my late mother and your mother were like sisters.” And that’s how she got me!

I was very aware of how close my mother and her mother were. Indeed, they were best of friends. I remembered how sad my mother was when her best friend died. And how sad I was that night to see my mother cry so hard.

I could no longer ignore her request for assistance. After all, she was the daughter of my mother’s best friend, a woman my mother loved with all her heart; and I knew what my mother would want me to do. To say no to this lady’s cry for help now would be to say no to my mother’s cry for help. And that I could never do! That week, she received the money she asked for.

Now, that’s what praying in the name of Jesus is like. When we ask God for help and we humbly, but wisely, invoke the name of Jesus, He cannot ignore our request. To say no to our cry for help would be to say no to His Son’s cry for help. And that God would never do! After all, we are the covenant brothers and sisters of His beloved Son, our best friend, whom He loves with all His heart. And God knows what His Son would have Him do for us.

That young lady “got” me as she invoked the name of my beloved mother. And in the same way, you will touch God every time, as you invoke the name of His beloved Son.

Listen to Jesus’ own words:

“In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name…He himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.” (John 16:23, 27 TNIV)

So, when you approach the Father to ask for help, don’t come saying, “Did You see how long I prayed last week, Father, and all the good works I did? Two hours everyday in prayer, eighteen chapters read, ten people witnessed to. On that basis, I come to You with these requests, and I’m sure You’ll give them to me.” No, come simply on the basis of the name you’ve been given the privilege to use, the name of Jesus.

Invoke that special love the Father has for Jesus and Jesus has for you when you pray. And then, after you’ve made your request in His name, expect a favorable outcome!

Blessings,
Bishop Johnson

Is God For You?

“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?” (Romans 8:31, 32 NASB)

To be for a person is to be in support of and in favor of that person. And to favor a person is to give that person preferential treatment over others. Stop and think about the implications.

The Word says, God is for us. This means, the Almighty, the most powerful Person in the universe, will support us and give us preferential treatment over others. He will make our interest and well-being His top priority in Read More

Guess Who’s Mad About You

I grew up hearing sermons that portrayed God as mad with sinners. I heard over and over again how God was pouring out His wrath upon people and nations. They blamed God for every natural disaster. They said he was angry with people for their wicked ways. They felt it was their duty to let everybody know how mad God was with them for their sins.

I guess those preachers thought the only way to get people to serve God was to Read More

Why Are You So Fearful?

When a terrible storm threatened to sink their boat on the Sea of Galilee, Jesus’ disciples panicked. Feeling they were going to drown while Jesus slept, they awakened Him with a rebuke, “Teacher, don’t you care that we perish?”

Jesus arose. Taking control of the Sea and charge of the Wind, He opened His mouth and said, “Peace! Be still! Remain still!” And like a baby, the Sea and the Wind went to sleep.

Then He lovingly rebuked His disciples. “Why are you so Read More

Favor Beyond Measure

Listen to these words found in Ephesians 1:7-8.

“To the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace which He lavished on us.”.

God has “lavished” His grace upon us in the Beloved. To lavish something is to give it out to the point of excess. It is to be extravagant in the use of it.

And according to the dictionary, a person who is extravagant lacks Read More

You Are Next!

Christmas time is here, and once again, people are celebrating all over the world. This is a joyous season, as it should be. On that first Christmas morning the angel declared it would be so, saying to the shepherds, “Fear not, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” Jesus came that all men may have life in abundance.

That’s why His first miracle was at a wedding. Jesus was not a recluse. He did not have a Read More

God Is In Big Trouble

“Have you heard? God’s in big trouble!” “Big trouble?” you ask. “Yes, real big trouble!” “And what trouble is this that God has gotten Himself into?” “Oh, you haven’t heard? You mean you don’t know? Well, let me be the one to tell you. God has gotten Himself into big trouble—yours and mine!”

Beloved, God is very much in our trouble. The Psalmist assures us this is the case.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not Read More
